EFTPS Now Requiring Multifactor Authentication
Beginning October 19, 2023, the Electronic Federal Tax Payment System (EFTPS) now requires multifactor authentication (MFA) for individuals and businesses to use the system.
MFA is a cybersecurity best practice and adds another layer of security to the EFTPS.
How to Add MFA
You will be required to log in to EFTPS and will be prompted to register and/or authenticate with a Credential Service Provider, ID.me, or Login.gov. If you have not registered for one, you can do so here.
Once you've authenticated, you'll be redirected back to the EFTPS to log in again.
If you need further help with the EFTPS, the EFTPS customer service information is here.
What is the EFTPS?
The Electronic Federal Tax Payment System is provided by the U.S. Department of Treasury and is used by millions of individuals, businesses, and nonprofits to securely process tax payments.
MRPR Takeaway
This new registration takes about 20 minutes to complete. We recommend that you take this necessary security step prior to your next EFTPS payment to ensure any payment will not be late.
